EXHIBITION FROM NOVEMBER 18th TO AUCTION DATE EVERY DAY (WEEKEND INCLUDED) FROM 10 am TO 6 pm
BLINDARTE NAPOLI - VIA CAIO DUILIO 10
Wednesday, November 27, starting at 4pm at the Neapolitan headquarters of Blindarte - in connection with the Milan headquarters - will be held the auction n.113 of art objects, gouaches from the collection of Carlo Knight and important paintings of the nineteenth century.
The catalogue opens with a varied selection of art objects from various manufactures and eras, including a group of majolica Castelli, silver artefacts and sculptures by Vincenzo Gemito. Of great interest, also for institutional museums, is the rare Bust Portrait by Luigi Vanvitelli, in biscuit from the Poulard Prad Manufacture of 1807, extremely interesting for its uniqueness, because such an important personality is not found to have been ever commemorated with other sculptural reproductions for posterity (Estimated € 25,000 / 30,000). The bust is accompanied by a long and detailed technical sheet written by Professor Angela Carola Perrotti.
The sale continues with an exclusive appointment, dedicated to the refined and selected collection of gouaches and fans by Carlo Knight, extraordinary protagonist of the Neapolitan cultural world recently disappeared and to which is dedicated the exhibition currently underway in Naples at the Gallerie d'Italia "Sir William e Lady Hamilton". The collection consists of about 60 lots that trace the passion and studies of Knight for the history of Naples, its geology, and its characters. Important works by Giacinto Gigante, Pietro Fabris, Saverio Della Gatta and Camillo De Vito are included in this collection.
The catalogue then presents paintings and objects from the collection of a refined connoisseur from Naples, partly inherited from the family’s historical collection. Among these the splendid 17th century Neapolitan Scarabattolo, with beautiful presepial figures (Estimated € 7,000/ 8,000), the fine Ferdinandeo group La prova del sarto (Estimated € 7,000 - 9,000), of which is known a pendant to the Correale Museum in Sorrento or still the precious plate of the eighteenth century with the rare view of the Royal Palace. This collection includes an important painting by Francesco De Mura and helps, (estimated € 22,000/ 25,000) to consider a sketch of the work performed by the painter for the counter facade of the church of Santa Chiara in Naples lost, and the caravaggesca still life by Giovan Battista Ruoppolo (estimated € 40,000/ 45,000), presented in the most important exhibitions dedicated to Italian still life, with a rich bibliography.
Finally, in the section of ancient paintings, are presented: two beautiful views by Carlo Bonavia, one signed, a portrait of Saint Catherine of Alexandria signed by Andrea Vaccaro (Estimated € 30,000 / 40,000), the exceptional painting by Juan Ruiz Cuccagna a Largo di Palazzo (estimated € 22,000/ 30,000), which is a very important historical testimony of the great celebratory machine created on the occasion of the birth of the firstborn of Carlo III, Taken from the balconies of the Royal Palace; in the centre of the painting is clearly visible the image of the king on horseback. The painting was part of the memorable exhibition Masterpieces in Celebration. Effimero Barocco a Largo di Palazzo held in Naples in 1997 and is published in the exhibition catalogue.
Interesting also the canvas by Massimo Stanzione (estimated € 30,000/ 35,000 €) as a rare example of secular painting of the Master and the small precious copper of Filippo Napoletano (estimated € 12,000/ 15,000). It will not fail to arouse a lot of curiosity and interest - for collectors and experts - the intense portrait of San Marco of clear matrix Riverine (Estimated € 22,000/ 28,000), which will inevitably be the subject of in-depth studies by art historians experts in Neapolitan painting of the early seventeenth century.
The exhibition will be open from November 18th to the date of the auction, every day from 10 am to 6 pm at the headquarters in Naples in via Caio Duilio 10.
The auction will take place live and in presence in Naples from 4 pm on Wednesday, November 27th
