Luca Forte (Napoli, 1600/1605 – 1670)

According to the scholar, in the canvas presented here, as well as in all the others with which it is compared, The Neapolitan Master manages to reconcile the legacy of the naturalist tradition of Battistello Caracciolo and Ribera with the new trends of the neo-venetian and pre-baroque season expressed in Naples first by Paolo Porpora and then by Giuseppe Recco.

Spinosa’s striking and pertinent comparisons are mainly with some of the details of the large canvas in the collection D'Errico at Palazzo San Gervasio, Potenza, with the painting by Fiori e frutta, by Molinari Pradelli in Bologna and in Naples, in collection De Falco Fruit, cedars and vase with flowers on a stone base
