Surely for the measures we can argue that our tapestry was part of a large furniture set of the room or a cabinet in full adherence to the baroque modes defined at Versailles by Louis XIV.
The quadrangular format of small and medium size was necessary to cover the interval between the large celebratory tapestries in correspondence with the door compartment that obviously interrupted the serial sequence.
The aim was to offer the viewer an image of upholstery on the walls as much as continuous, so that the eye scrolled the images narrated without disturbing breaks.
Usually in the "Sovraporta" was exalted and celebrated the salient theme told by the larger scenes or the family of the client, or a symbol that was a motto or a sign, sometimes caption or quote of the creator of the drawings and/ or the weaving itself.
