both with T Saulini f.
depicting the portraits of Albert Edward (1841-1910), Prince of Wales and son of Queen Victoria, and Alexandra of Denmark, eldest daughter of King Christian IX, whom she married on 10 March 1863. Albert Edward was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King of the British Dominions and Emperor of India from 22 January 1901 until his death as Edward VII.
both bear the engraved signature of the famous Roman mosaicist Tommaso Saulini, with a workshop in Via del Babuino in Rome at number 96.
The Saulini acquires celebrities by participating in the International Exhibitions.
In 1851 he took part in that of London, presenting several cameos in shell and hard stone.
In addition to reproducing subjects taken from classical iconographic repertoires and contemporary artists, Thomas S. distinguished himself above all as a portraitist, portraying illustrious personalities such as Queen Victoria and the Prince consort.
And here we add our two cameos with portraits of members of the English royal family still unpublished at the studios.
His atelier in Via del Babuino became a meeting place for the cultured European and American bourgeoisie who came to Rome and then took home a souvenir of the Eternal City.
His works are now preserved in important museums around the world including the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the British Museum and the Birmingham Museum in London, the Walter Art Museum in Baltimore, the Hillwood Museum in Washington and the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.
