Ernesto Tatafiore (1943) lives and works in Naples. Achille Bonito Oliva, on the occasion of his first solo exhibition at the gallery owner Lucio Amelio, defines his art as "neo-illuminista", because it deals with the themes of the French and Neapolitan revolutions. His works are often inhabited by heroes (Robespierre, Mozart, Maradona, Danton, Masaniello, Virtue, Freedom) or tell of great historical events or permanent events of humanity, which the artist, however, free from the logical tale-consequence of the historical novel to place them in a representative context that recalls the associative modalities of the dream or the continuous and unorganizable flow of life. Tatafioreโ€™s paintings have always exhibited a very light and fast stroke in an attempt to construct a representation that springs simultaneously from perceived reality.
