Exhibition:
I Campi Flegrei di Mario Sangiovanni, Palazzo reale di Napoli, curated by Patrizia di Maggio e Daniela Ricci, april 2012
-
Mario Sangiovanni was born in Naples in 1939. Introduced by his family to other kinds of studies (he graduated in mathematics), he has always cultivated a passion for painting. He has presented his works in Milan, Vicenza, Genoa, Pavia, Bologna, Ischia, Pozzuoli, Naples, Salerno, Campobasso. From the landscapes of Pozzuoli to the structures of the disused Italsider up to his beloved sunflowers, the master expresses himself in the wake of a stubbornly figurative painting, which recognizes its roots in German and overseas Expressionism, with references to Jackson's early works Pollock and the last of the best Willem De Kooning, the epigones of Abstract Expressionism.
