Raffaele Lippi, Retrospective exhibition of the painter, Villa Pignatelli, Naples, 1984, as per label on the reverse

-
Raffaele Lippi (Naples, 1911 - 1982) is one of the most original artists of the Neapolitan twentieth century. The painting is characterized by a gestural and chromatic violence that agitates and deforms the plastic structure, giving life to images of powerful vision. During the years of participation in the Southern Group (1947-49) his interest in the representation of the human figure increased, leading to accentuated expressionist deformations. After 1950 he continued on the path of the figurative and approached Neorealism. Over time the visionary character of his painting seems to accentuate, so the soft, warm and brown colours, with white and gray luminescence, play an important role. Two important retrospective exhibitions have been dedicated to him: one, in 1984 at Villa Pignatelli, and the other, in 2004 at Castel dell'Ovo.
