Gianni De Tora was born in Caserta in 1941. Having completed his artistic studies, he was increasingly interested in going beyond academic painting to work towards a renewal of language. In the 1960s, after an investigation into matter-colour-light, with works in which memories of Morandi's solemn spatial architecture are highlighted, he created informal works, where the gesture digs a mark on the surface, engraving mental traces. Among the founders of the "Geometry and Research" Group with Barisani, Di Ruggiero, Tatafiore, Riccini, Testa and Trapani, he takes part in an intense program of exhibitions and debates in various Italian cities including Como, Rome, Benevento, Naples. Since 2010 he has been present at the Museo del Novecento at the Castel S.Elmo in Naples, with a work from 1975 and one of his sculptures (Labirinto 2004) which has been placed at the SUN Faculty of Art History in S.Maria Capua Vetere ( There is). His works are preserved in museums, public and private galleries in Italy and abroad. The major Italian and foreign critics were interested in his work.
