VAIN & VICIOUS is an installation by New York-based artist and designer GASTON MARTICORENA, which, curated by Mariuccia Casadio, and produced on the initiative of the BLINDARTE gallery, will be inaugurated at its premises in via Palermo 11 in Milan on November 18.
Active since the 1990s, Gaston Marticorena has conceived a formidable number of works and furnishing objects, as well as installations and displays in the USA, Japan and Europe. His more than 30 years of attention to nature and the environment is reflected in the recovery of found and eco-friendly materials, which have always been at the origin of his creative elaborations. Balloons that become poufs, or stools and benches with exposed padding of straw, dollars or hazelnuts. Bi-functional furnishing compendiums. Or finally, playful creations, totally free and personal, made up the core of a production based on unique pieces and small limited series. Artefacts that over time have constituted statements and authentic precognitions on the evolution and changing priorities of our time. Expressions of an appreciable detachment from the hysteria of business and commercial success, to which Gaston Marticorena remains faithful.
A horde of exhibitionist and vicious squirrels, seemingly straight out of a cartoon, populate the entrance and exterior walls of Blindarte, the protagonist of an environment-friendly installation, where fallen palm leaves, compostable supermarket bags or isothermal blankets cut and processed by hand, along with much else, define the fairy-tale luminescent colours and decorations. The red carpet becomes a game of full embroidery and trailing tails, giving life and identity to an animal world that likes to transgress the rules. Imitating fashion. Making fun of us and our foolish censures.
